Music of Johann Sebastian Bach
May 12, 4 p.m.

In this 500th anniversary year since the beginning of the Lutheran Reformation, we celebrate that greatest of composers, Johann Sebastian Bach with a performance of two of his masterworks. A chamber ensemble and quartet of vocalists will present the Cantata, BWV 5: "Wo soll ich fliehen hin?" "Where shall I flee." As with all of Bach's sacred cantatas, this work is filled with beautifully subtle text painting representing the pinnacle of musical theological composition. The second part of the program will feature organist and harpsichordist Joy-Leilani Garbutt will play the jubilant Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, a piece that is credited with the invention of the keyboard concerto.
